The Filmmakers Academy offers 15 filmmakers, aged between 18 and 35 and coming from all over the world, daily meetings with directors, producers and other internationally renowned figures of the film industry. The guests of past editions include Werner Herzog, Abel Ferrara, Lav Diaz, Ken Loach, Pedro Costa, Aleksandr Sokurov, Bong Joon-Ho, Jia Zhangke, Olivier Assayas, Catherine Breillat, Todd Haynes, Miguel Gomes, Agnès Varda. The 15 participants are joined each year by six talents from the prestigious Cinéfondation residency in Cannes.
Year after year, the Filmmakers Academy has consolidated its mission as a platform for dialogue and exchange, bringing together the great protagonists of world cinema with the most promising talents of contemporary cinema.
More details about the 2021 edition will be published on this page in the coming weeks.
The Filmmakers Academy program allows for synergies with its parallel programs, the Industry Academy and the Critics Academy. By networking together, the different Academies create a campus where distinct fields of activity find points of convergence, opening new perspectives for the filmmaking practices of the participants, and allowing each to build a valuable network of professional contacts.
Participating filmmakers also have the opportunity of showing their short films to the Festival audience during the Filmmakers Academy's evening screenings.
