Closer to Life

Solidarity Initiative for Swiss independent cinemas
by the Locarno Film Festival and la Mobiliare

Closer to Life – solidarity initiative for Swiss independent cinemas is a project of the Locarno Film Festival and la Mobiliare to support independent cinema in Switzerland through this difficult time.

Driven by a shared commitment to contributing towards the recovery of the industry as well as to reciprocate the trust received in the past, Closer to Life actively supports 78 cinemas across the country and offers over 10,000 free tickets, which can be claimed by taking part in the Festival’s online competition or by visiting the general agencies of la Mobiliare (listed on www.closertolife.ch). The tickets are valid in one of the joining cinemas for a screening of your choice from October to the end of December 2020. The initiative is supported by renowned artists and cultural figures of Swiss culture who tell us the reason why they love cinema. Cinema is culture, enjoyment and community. Let’s support it, together.

"

The delicate situation we are all facing shows once more how important it is to protect the things we care about. The arthouse cinema we love is made of surprising emotions and unexpected discoveries. Our duty as a Festival is to support that arthouse cinema and the independent theaters through which it reaches us, and to give the audience an opportunity to enjoy it from the front row.

"

Films open our eyes to different perspectives, themes, places and cultures – they encourage us to reflect and creatively address relevant issues. Culture is not a luxury. In fact, it gives us important stimuli and food for thought in particularly challenging moments.
