The production
Established in 2014, Norte Productions produces short and feature-films that explore the different potentials of cinema. Norte has produced around 25 films, including Antoine d’Agata’s Atlas (2013), Véréna Paravel and Lucien Castaing-Taylor’s somniloquies (2017) and Caniba (2017) and the works of Maureen Fazendeiro, Marí Alessandrini, and Jean-Guillaume Sonnier.
Sensory Ethnography Lab, established in 2006, is an experimental laboratory that promotes innovative combinations of aesthetics and ethnography, using analog and digital media, installation, and performance, to explore the ontology of the natural and man-made world. Their films include: J.P. Sniadecki’s Songhua (2008), Chaiqian (Demolition, 2010) and The Iron Ministry (2014), Stephanie Spray’s Kāle and Kāle (2007), Véréna Paravel’s 7 Queens (2008), Ilisa Barbash and Lucien Castaing-Taylor’s Sweetgrass (2009), Lucien Castaing-Taylor’s Hell Roaring Creek (2010), Stephanie Spray and Pacho Velez’s Manakamana (2013), Joana Pimenta’s The Figures Carved into the Knife by the Sap of the Banana Trees (2014), Paravel and Castaing-Taylor’s Leviathan (2012), somniloquies (2017) and Caniba (2017).
