The 74th edition of the Locarno Film Festival will take place in its physical form from August 4 to 14 in Locarno, subject to Cantonal authorization.
The Festival team is currently working, in full compliance with official health and biosecurity guidelines, towards a physical event in 2021. Should those same guidelines so require, however, the Festival reserves the option to make organizational changes which will be announced to the media and the general public in due course.
The usual Press Conference announcing the films selected for the 74th edition of the Festival will be held on July 1, 2021. The Press Conference will take place in the morning in Bern, in presence and streaming, and in the afternoon in Bellinzona.
Later in July, the full schedule of dates and times will be published on the Festival website, as well as synopses and information about the selected films.
The complete program of dates and times of the 74th edition of the Locarno Film Festival will be available on the website during the month of July.
The Piazza Grande is central to the experience of the Festival and we are working with the intention of being able to offer screenings in complete safety, while also monitoring the evolution of the directives regarding big events. This year Piazza Grande will be able to accommodate up to a maximum of 3,000 people.
Guests and film delegations will be invited to the 74th edition of the Locarno Film Festival. However, their physical presence at the event is determined by the sanitary measures applied to their travels. We will communicate about this in a timely manner.
As with the other initiatives of the Festival, we are working so that laRotonda can take place in its usual physical form. LaRotonda will be organized this year according to a new concept and all current health regulations will be respected in this space as well.
Season tickets can be purchased starting Monday May 17 on the Festival website's online Ticket Shop.
Daily tickets and tickets for the screenings on the Piazza Grande and in the other venues can be purchased online on the Ticket Shop in July, when the program with dates and times will be available on the website.
Season tickets, daily tickets and tickets can be purchased online at the Locarno Film Festival Ticket Shop. For those who have problems with purchasing or reserving tickets online, there will be a dedicated service to contact.
For those who are unable to do so online, there will also be the possibility to purchase subscriptions and tickets directly at the Locarno Film Festival InfoPoints. However, in order to avoid queues and crowds, the Festival strongly recommends purchasing online.
Access to screenings on the Piazza Grande and in the other venues of the Locarno Film Festival is by seat reservation only.
Your seat can be reserved up to 30 minutes before the screening, unless seats are sold out in advance, via the Locarno Film Festival website or App. It will be forbidden to enter the theater or the Piazza Grande once the screening has started.
We kindly ask you to show your reservation, either on paper or online, on time at the entrance to the theater to avoid queues forming. We also remind you that the seat reservation also serves as a health tracking device in case of Covid-19 infection.
The Locarno Film Festival will abide by all federal and cantonal regulations in force at the time, as well as the recommendations issued by institutions such as ProCinema and Gastrosuisse, and by the City of Locarno, for the complete safety of the Festival's audience and guests. The rules to be followed will be communicated in due course.
The Festival provides its own masks, which can be purchased at the Info Points, online at the Locarno Film Festival Shop and at Boutique Manor.
The Locarno Film Festival App allows you to have everything at your fingertips, at all times, on your digital devices. By logging in with your Pardo ID, the App will provide an overview of the official selection, with the plots and trailers of the films presented. But it will also allow you to build your own program, book your place in the theater and vote for the Prix du public UBS in Piazza Grande, and, for accredited people, to better organize their work thanks to special content reserved for the press and industry professionals.
To access the digital services of the Locarno Film Festival you need to create a personal Pardo ID account and log in. We remind you that for those who have been to Locarno in the past years and/or already use the Festival's digital services, the Pardo ID account will remain the same in their possession.
The Pardo ID is the access key to the Locarno Film Festival. It is the tool with which the Festival has simplified access to its program and its many initiatives. With this single account, in fact, it will be possible to access the Festival's digital services, such as the Ticket Shop and the Boutique, as well as one's personal area, through which one can view the program, choose the screenings, reserve one's seat and purchase tickets. To live, easily and safely, the world of the Festival at 360°.
More information will follow.
To ensure the health of its audiences and guests, the Locarno Film Festival will track movement in two ways:
In the theaters and Piazza Grande, through the mandatory seat reservation for all screenings
In other venues of the Locarno Film Festival where a compulsory reservation is not required (such as Conversations with the Audience, Locarno Talks la Mobiliare, laRotonda etc.), through a special contact tracing App that will be announced soon
