Paris in the 1950s: A little boy unties a red balloon from a lamppost. To the surprise of the neighborhood, the balloon follows him through the streets of Paris and makes the other children envious. Albert Lamorisse’s short film is an indispensable children’s cinema classic and received a Palme d’Or in 1956 and an Oscar for best screenplay in 1957.
