A remake of Stahl’s 1935 film and the first of Universal’s great Technicolor melodramas. A series of coincidences and fatal accidents lead to blindness for Jane Wyman and redemption for Rock Hudson. A story “halfway between kitsch and madness”, sublimated through the great art of the director.
