Denis Côté (1973) used to be a film critic before directing his debut feature film, Les États Nordiques (Drifting States, 2005, Pardo d’oro at the Locarno Video Competition). With Elle veut le chaos (All That She Wants, 2008) and Curling (2010) he garnered two Pardo awards for best director. Carcasses (2009) premiered at the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight. Vic + Flo ont vu un ours (Vic + Flo Saw a Bear, 2013) was awarded the Silver Bear at the Berlinale. Over 20 retrospectives worldwide have been dedicated to his work. Côté returned to Berlin in 2014, in the Forum section, with Que ta joie demeure (Joy of Man’s Desiring). In 2015, he directed Boris sans Béatrice (Boris Without Béatrice), whereas his tenth feature, Ta peau si lisse (A Skin So Soft), premiered at Locarno70. In 2019, Répertoire des villes disparues (Ghost Town Anthology) was in competition at the 69th Berlinale and Wilcox was in competition at Locarno. He won best director in the Berlinale section Encounters for Hygiène sociale (Social Hygiene, 2021), while in 2022 Un été comme ça (That Kind of Summer) was in competition at the same festival.
