“My military service was done and I finished a sergeant. With the revolution in Syria, I was held in the army reserve and assigned to run the Bassel Al Assad theater in Damascus. I worked with my friend, Mohammed Malas, as an assistant director. I hold my small camera and try to document our daily activities. All the technicians, mainly from the opposition party, tell me their stories. Some of them had their houses shelled, some of them emigrated and do not know where they are going next and some of them had their friends killed. Every day, I go back home, sit and watch the news about destruction, violence, shelling… The sun rises, I wake up once more, put on my military suit, and go off to my military base to start a new day.” (Ziad Kalthoum)
