Pich and Shane, who once were lovers, are trying to heal the pain of their current lives by reviving their old romance through the fabricating of the traditional Thai ornament made of flowers.

Heartbreaking, romantic and erotic, contemplative and spiritual, this second feature by Anucha Boonyawatana is a profound, disturbing, Buddhist apologue about love, mourning and accepting impermanence. With its suave photography and its unforgettable actors, Malila: The Farewell Flower may be compared to the baisri, the fleeting floral compositions to which the dying lover is dedicated in the film: an alluring work, featuring great care and delicacy.
