When Feluda, a witty detective from Calcutta, and his cousin, Topshe, arrive in the city of Benares for a vacation, they are asked by a local family to solve the theft of a precious gold statue of the god Ganesha. The idol is a family heirloom handed down from a former king of Nepal and is supposed to bring good luck. Feluda soon befriends Riku, a young boy, who helps him in finding clues to solve the mystery of the missing statue.
