We have stolen smiles and tears, laughter and emotion, applause and ovations. We have listened to stories, recounted ideas and collected thoughts. We have learned and loved. Basically, every year we have tried to sum up that amazing mixture of films, feelings and interviews that make up the Locarno Film Festival. And this is only the beginning.

To tell his story, we let the images speak.  This was Locarno72.

John Waters is like fly paper. If you meet him, and listen to him, you will not be able to shake him off. Armed with irreverence, bluntness and happiness, the Pope of Trash has the strength of truth an the power of simplicity. It's his truth, of course, but it's so infectious and proud that is seems global. Unfiltered yet elegant, every word is an embroidery on a jacket no one could wear without looking ridiculous. Except for him, the Pardo d'onore Manor of Locarno72.

They've known each other for sixteen years, but neither of them remembers exactly how they met. What they do remember, and know quite well, is how much they enjoy working together. BONG Joon-ho writes his films with SONG Kang-ho in mind, and SONG never says no to BONG because he knows it will be a fun experience. They've made four films together: Parasite, Snowpiercer, The Host and Memories of Murder.

He locked himself inside a cockpit and didn't move from there. Or rather, Patrick Vollrath locked him in there and he remained in position, for a month of shooting and an hour and a half of running time. Was it easy? No. However, Joseph Gordon-Levitt pulled it off, he stayed in there, learned every comma of aviation talk and, without moving, kept viewers glued to their seats. Piazza Grande is ready to greet the few square feet of 7500, by Patrick Vollrath. With Sir Joseph manning the plane.

It was one of the most cinematic and enriching encounters of the last few years. It was 2015, and Walter Murch, the recipient of Locarno68's Vision Award, used his craft, knowledge and intelligence to take us back to the places of cinema, of his own filmmaking, and the first place par excellence: the mother's womb.
