Open Doors brings to the cinemas of Locarno the films that have made its history. The section, which aims to highlight the talents and cinema of the South and East of the world, traces back through the continents explored during its 18 years.
This is a selection of films that Open Doors, throughout its eighteen-year existence, has shown to audiences on the screens of the Locarno Film Festival or hosted as projects within its professional initiatives, providing a substantial contribution to their completion. In a year when Open Doors focuses on Southeast Asia and Mongolia, Through the Open Doors reflects the mission of shining a light on the films from the South and East of the world.
The section is conceived as a journey across continents, from various African regions to Latin America, to Central and South Asia, with the aim of conveying the talent of their filmmakers and the commitment of the producers supporting them in a breathtaking anthology.
Paying tribute to Open Doors with this special program means doubling down on the support for independent cinema in those parts of the world where its identity was forged only recently, and on the necessity of reinforcing the opportunities of cooperation and exchange for the professionals who keep giving life to that cinema.
The 10 films in Through the Open Doors will be shown exclusively in theaters in Locarno and Muralto. Tickets and season tickets for the screenings will be available from this site from July 29.
