Day 2 | Today's Program

Giona A. Nazzaro's Summary

Cinema is wonder. The Lumières and Méliès knew it. The wonder of gazing at the screen and, thanks to the complicity of the light beam with the silver screen, seeing other life forms that we would never have imagined appear. It is inevitable for us to pay homage to Phil Tippett, a man who, as a child, was struck by the mythological creatures in stop-motion made by Ray Harryhausen, and who has single-handedly bridged the gap between analogic creation and the digital era. Browsing the program of surprises that the Festival presents, beside the monuments of cinema we have placed the promises of upcoming talents such as very young Simone Bozzelli (watch out for the Pardi di domani!), who directed the amazing video of Maneskin’s I Wanna Be Your Slave – with over 12 million views! Cinema is the wonder of being at the heart of the present. Just as Hleb Papou, Lorenz Merz, or Araceli Lemos. The cinema of today – and of tomorrow above all – once again passes through the streets of the Locarno Film Festival.
