The method of calculation considers the total number of female and male directors. In the case of co-productions, all the directors were counted, without distinguishing whether the directing was predominantly female or male.
The Films After Tomorrow is the initiative of Locarno 2020 – For the Future of Films whose goal is to support filmmakers who have had to halt their projects because of the global pandemic COVID-19. Out of more than 500 submitted projects, the Locarno Film Festival has selected twenty feature film projects, ten of which are international and ten Swiss.

Pardi di domani is the Locarno Film Festival section dedicated to short films by emerging directors from all over the world. Out of more than 2,200 entries, the Locarno Film Festival has selected 43 short films, 31 of which are international and 12 Swiss.

The Open Doors Screenings present a selection of shorts and feature films that are particularly representative of independent cinema in a specific area of the South and East of the world. This edition of the Open Doors Screenings focuses on films from Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia and Myanmar in the context of the three-year cycle (2019-2021) dedicated to South-East Asia and Mongolia. The section includes titles from 1973 to 2019.
