Valentin Merz was born in 1985 in Zurich, Switzerland, where his mother had migrated to from Istanbul. He worked as a typographer in Mexico City and in cinema and theater in Berlin, prior to studying film at the Geneva University of Art and Design (HEAD). His short films have screened at festivals around the world. De noche los gatos son pardos (2022), his feature debut, premiered in Locarno, where it received a Special Mention for Best First Feature. Les Bouches (2024) is his latest short.
Valentin Merz è nato nel 1985 a Zurigo, in Svizzera, dove sua madre era emigrata da Istanbul. Ha lavorato come tipografo a Città del Messico e nel cinema e nel teatro a Berlino, prima di studiare cinema alla Haute école d'art et de design di Ginevra (HEAD). I suoi corti sono stati proiettati in festival di tutto il mondo. De noche los gatos son pardos (2022), il suo primo lungometraggio, ha ricevuto una menzione speciale per la migliore opera prima a Locarno. Les Bouches (2024) è il suo ultimo cortometraggio.
