It's a two-day event, followed by a ten-day workshop, with an exceptional guest: Alice Rohrwacher will be the star of L'immagine a la parola.
Scheduled for March 28 and 29, 2020, the eighth edition of the Locarno Film Festival's spring event will greet the Italian filmmaker and her vision, which has been one of the more original and appreciated ones in international contemporary cinema for the past few years. Eight young directors coming from all over the world will get to know, experience and "steal" from that vision, by embarking with Rohrwacher on the I fiori workshop, which will literally make cinema bloom as part of the Ticino spring.

At the end of the two days of L'immagine e la parola (March 28-29), which will offer the audience a program based on encounters, screenings and readings alongside the Italian director (the full program, curated by Lili Hinstin and Daniel Persico, will be unveiled in February 2020), this edition will also look to cinema yet to come, to the people who dream of it, seek it and think about it. They will have a chance to experience it with one of its most important creators. After last year's marvelous experience with Béla Tarr, the Locarno Film Festival, CISA, Ticino Film Commission, all roommates inside the PalaCinema, and broadcaster RSI, will offer the selected youths the chance to take part in a ten-day workshop with Alice Rohrwacher, who will mentor the creation of eight shorts films that will subsequently be part of the Locarno73 line-up, on August 5-15, 2020.
I fiori will focus on another vision, strongly connected to Rohrwacher's: the environment. That topic, whose urgency is a fundamental part of today's social and political discourse, will be the park igniting the works of the eight filmmakers dealing with the Ticino territory, as part of a path and vision that will not differ from the depictions of Calabria, Umbria and Abruzzo in Corpo celeste (2011), The Wonders (2014) and Happy as Lazzaro (2018).

At a time when attention towards the environment is finally increasing, the workshop of L’immagine e la parola seemed like the perfect opportunity to stage an encounter between the international side of the Locarno Film Festival and local concerns".
