Locarno Short Cuts - Day 5

After the record-setting fourth night, it's time for the fifth day of Locarno72. The picture of a chock-full Piazza lingers in our memory, but the first Sunday of the Festival has its own bundle of films, emotions and competitions to offer. The Concorso internazionale travels to two European extremes, from the South of Portugal in Technoboss to the North of Iceland in Bergmál (Echo), while Cineasti del presente is all about Davide Maldi's L'apprendistato (The Young Observant) and Jeanne Balibar's Merveilles à Montfermeil (Wonders in the Suburbs). If, on the other hand, your wish is to venture into more experimental territory, the Moving Ahead section and Eric Baudelaire's Un Film dramatique are just what you need. Last but not least, as always, there's Piazza Grande, with Valérie Donzelli's Notre dame and Natascha Beller's Die fructhbaren Jahre sind vorbei (Vagenda Stories).
