The 2019 edition, the first under the artistic direction of Lili Hinstin, ended successfully and awarded the Pardo d'oro to VITALINA VARELA by Pedro Costa.

It’s no easy task to single out one moment to encapsulate and tell the story of eleven days of the Festival. Locarno72 brought 246 films and 432 screenings. There was the tenderness of Fredi M. Murer and the true grit of Hilary Swank, the understanding between SONG Kang-ho and BONG Joon-ho and the vision of Claire Atherton, the colourful effervescence of John Waters, and the creative genius of enrico ghezzi. And who can forget an audience of 9,300 packing the Piazza for Quentin Tarantino and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (7500). We witnessed the debut film of Ginevra Elkann (Magari) open the Festival and Kiyoshi Kurosawa round it off with Tabi no owari sekai no hajimari (To the Ends of the Earth).
