The 70th Locarno Festival was enhanced by a range of ancillary activities and events that turned Locarno into an all-round Festival with a unique and creative atmosphere.

LaRotonda performed extremely well, attracting no less than 115,000 visitors over 17 nights. The entire music and entertainment program was organized by RSI Rete Tre, with sixteen concerts, over 20 DJ mix shows and live acts and more than 100 guests live on PardOn.

There was plenty more besides music, with the Virtual Reality Corner (2-12 August) allowing festival-goers to experience a program of leading-edge audiovisual productions compiled in collaboration with the Geneva International Film Festival GIFF, while for the second year the center of laRotonda housed the Grand Hotel Swisscom, the Festival club and lounge bar, serving cocktails of all kinds in a relaxed and elegant ambience until the wee small hours of the morning thanks to “Silent Party”, the exclusive silent disco.

The new Locarno Garden la Mobiliare also proved popular with the public. Some 14,000 festival-goers visited the new Locarno Festival garden centered around the Swiss Mobiliar pavilion WHAT IF, designed by Swiss artist Kerim Seiler. Music for the garden was arranged by the Lugano-based association Turba, which put on a 16-day program, together with a choice of food and drinks reflecting the delights of the local terroir.

The colorful new Locarno Talks Bar la Mobiliare, a meeting point for conversation, inspiration and networking among festival-goers moving between screenings at the Palexpo (FEVI), La Sala and L’Altra Sala, recorded a visitor footfall of 50,000 thanks to its offering of generous snacks and imaginative vegan cuisine.

And finally, of course, the Festival’s 174,000 visitors could complete their experience by choosing from the wealth of attractions offered by the region of Lake Maggiore and its surrounding valleys.
