Every summer, during the Locarno Film Festival, the Locarno Filmmakers Academy offers fifteen filmmakers from all over the world, daily meetings with directors, producers and other internationally known figures in the film industry. Guests who have held masterclasses in previous editions include: Werner Herzog, Abel Ferrara, Lav Diaz, Pedro Costa, Agnès Varda, Víctor Erice, Aleksandr Sokurov, Michael Cimino, Catherine Breillat and many others.
This year the Filmmakers Academy will offer two exclusive online masterclasses with three directors who are part of the Locarno 2020 The Films After Tomorrow competition.
The first one is with Portuguese director Miguel Gomes. An exceptional guest, four brilliant emerging filmmakers: Hamza Bangash (Pakistan/Canada, Filmmakers Academy 2019), Rina Tsou (Taiwan/Philippines, Filmmakers Academy 2015), Philbert Aimé Mbabazi Sharangabo (Rwanda/Switzerland, Filmmakers Academy 2019), Shirley Bruno (Haiti/USA, Filmmakers Academy 2014).
A dialogue that will pass through Portugal, Pakistan, Taiwan, Switzerland, and New York, to reflect on the cinema to come.
The masterclass dedicated to young Swiss cinema introduces us to two Swiss directors who are also former participants of the Locarno Filmmakers Academy 2020: Cyril Schäublin and Elie Grappe. These two promising directors will dialogue with a group of young cinema enthusiast of Cinema e Gioventù.
