The sailor Paolo falls in love with Luisa and marries her, but, on the day of their wedding the girl dies in a car accident. While indulging in alcohol to forget, he meets a woman, Rita, who bears a striking resemblance to his lost beloved. Based on Teobaldo Ciconi’s play La statua di carne (1862), this remarkable film seems to anticipate Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo (1958).
