First Look: Six Portuguese Works in Progress in Locarno

For its eight edition, Locarno Pro’s First Look initiative (3-5 August) will focus on Portuguese Cinema. Thanks to a partnership with ICA – Instituto do Cinema e do Audiovisual, this year's First Look will present six films in post-production chosen by Locarno Festival.

The selected works in progress are:

  • Campo by Tiago Hespanha, produced by João Matos (Terratreme Filmes)
  • Gabriel by Nuno Bernardo, produced by Nuno Bernardo (beActive Entertainment)
  • Golpe de Sol (Sunburn) by Vicente Alvez do Ó, produced by Pandora da Cunha Telles, Pablo Iraola (Ukbar Filmes)
  • Hálito Azul (Blue Breath) by Rodrigo Areias, produced by Rodrigo Areias (Bando à Parte), in coproduction with Oktober Film (Finland) and Gladys Glover Film (France)
  • Terra (Earth) by Rossana Torres and Hiroatsu Suzuki, produced by Rossana Torres and Hiroatsu Suzuki (Associação Entre Imagem), in coproduction with Optec – Sociedade Optica Tecnica (Portugal)
  • Viveiro by Pedro Filipe Marques, produced by Luís Urbano and Sandro Aguilar (O Som e a Fúria)

On August 5, the First Look Jury composed by Janet Pierson (SXSW Film Head), José Luis Rebordinos (San Sebastian Film Festival’s Artistic Director) and Eva Sangiorgi (Viennale’s Artistic Director) will assign the First Look award offered by Cinelab Bucharest that consists in post-production services in the value of 65.000 €, the Le Film Français’ award for advertising services in the value of 5.600 € and the Kaiju Cinema D/ffusion award (the designing of the international key art poster) valued 5.000 €.

The producers will also access a special matchmaking service provided by First Look Project Manager, Markus Duffner.

Portuguese cinema will also be represented in Locarno Festival’s official selection and Jury.
