From May 29 to June 7, we will be there too. The Locarno Film Festival is taking part in We Are One: A Global Film Festival. This event, which was organized by Tribeca Enterprise and YouTube as a result of the worldwide lockdown, and to which the most important international festivals said "yes", will inhabit YouTube for ten days, with movie content from all over the filmmaking world. And in a year where we can't be the summer house of auteur cinema, and the city cannot be an eleven-day hub for connections, Locarno decided to participate with two items that may seem secondary compared to the films, but are essential to its idea of what a Festival is. The Locarno Film Festival is taking part in the Global Film Festival with two examples of a typical, vital moment that has occurred every August for 73 years. It's the moment during which the two souls of the Festival coexist, when cinema and its audience are face-to-face, beyond the screen. In a year where we must endure being part, the Locarno Film Festival decided to bring two moments of closeness to the Global Film Festival. From May 29 to June 7, viewers will be able to enjoy the two long conversations with Pardo d'onore recipient John Waters and Excellence Award honoree Song Kang-ho, the latter accompanied by Palme d'Or and now Oscar winner Bong Joon-ho. Because a Festival is made of films and auteurs, but first and foremost, it is made of its audience. We Are One, but more importantly, We Are You.

In this spirit, we decided to present inspiring conversations between some of the most talented filmmakers currently working and that came to the latest edition of the Locarno Film Festival. We present cult filmmaker John Waters, recipient of the Pardo d'Onore, in conversation with director Albert Serra (Pardo d’oro in 2013) and we present Song Kang-ho, who received the Excellence Award at the Festival last year, in a lively conversation with his director Bong Joon-ho, the man behind their Palme d’Or and four Academy Award winning Parasite.
