Cinelab Award goes to THE PRINCE'S VOYAGE

Web viewers have laureled the film by Jean-François Laguionie and Xavier Picard as the winner of the Cinelab Award 2019, the prize competed for in the online event organized by the Locarno Film Festival in collaboration with Festival Scope.

Once again this year the Locarno Film Festival and Festival Scope have taken films fresh from the theater straight onto the web: the online initiative, which aims to promote and raise the accessibility of auteur film, was rounded off with the announcement of the Cinelab Award, won by Jean-François Laguionie and Xavier Picard’s The Prince’s Voyage. Presented during the 72nd edition of the Locarno Film Festival, the film won over viewers on the online platform, standing out among the 11 films selected from entries in the Concorso Cineasti del presente, Moving Ahead and Fuori concorso sections. The titles selected went on from their premieres during the 11 days of the Festival to become available for free viewing online on the Festival Scope platform until 31 August, with a ceiling of 400 tickets per film, while the “digital moviegoers” were able to indicate their preferences as to the best of the set.

The Cinelab Award 2019 for The Prince’s Voyage is further proof of a solid partnership that looks to the future, between the Locarno Film Festival and Festival Scope. The online, on demand platform allows movie lovers around the world to watch films from leading international Festivals, with the aim of extending the reach of the film experience beyond traditional distribution channels. Now in its fourth year, the successful partnership continues to garner plaudits from users, who not only enjoy access to a prestigious selection of auteur titles but can also vote to express their preferences.

The Prince’s Voyage, by Jean-François Laguionie and Xavier Picard, was presented during the 72nd edition of the Locarno Film Festival in the Fuori Concorso section. The film — produced by Blue Spirit Productions and brought to the international market thanks to Urban Distribution International — is an animated travel diary that combines pathos and philosophy, inspiring a global audience. The Cinelab Award is offered by Cinelab Bucarest and covers Post-Production services worth 22,000 euros.

Alongside the Locarno Film Festival, Festival Scope’s partners include the Venice, Rotterdam, Cannes (Critics’ Week and Directors’ Fortnight) and Clermont-Ferrand Festivals.
