Locarno Pro supports Swiss film industry professionals

Three producers, three feature film projects and three young Swiss professionals have been selected to take part in the Locarno Festival’s program dedicated to film industry professionals

Locarno Pro – the new label that from this year covers all of Locarno’s activities for the film industry – proudly notes the numerous Swiss cohort among this year’s professional attendees.

In collaboration with SWISS FILMS, from 3 to 5 August, three producers – Tolga Dilsiz (8horses), Flavia Zanon (Close Up Films) and Olivier Zobrist (Langfilm) – will be taking part in Match Me!, the informal networking platform for new and emerging production companies, which this year welcomes producers from 9 different countries around the world.

The Alliance for Development (3 – 5 August), now in its third edition, will feature presentations of three Swiss projects which have previously applied for development funding through MEDIA compensatory measures and are now seeking for Italian, French or German co-producers. The projects selected are: Au Sud by Lionel Baier, produced by Pauline Gygax and Max Karli (Bandita Films); Le Passeur by Kaveh Bakhtiari, produced by Isabelle Zampiero and Tristan Aymon (Terrain Vague); Renaissance by Caterina Mona, produced by Michela Pini (Cinédokké).

From 1 to 7 August the three professionals selected for the Industry Academy will take part in a program that brings together fledging professionals from Europe, Latin America and the USA, in a workshop which will allow them to deepen their knowledge of the film industry and its challenges. The Swiss representatives are Mélanie Courvoisier (Zinema, Cinema d’Oron, Minimum), Tanja Weibel (Solothurn Film Festival) and Moritz Schneider (CUT UP and FestivalWhizz).

Nadia Dresti, Deputy Artistic Director and Head of Locarno Pro: “The aim of Locarno Pro is to support auteur filmmaking and the people who work in and around it, through a range of tailored services and activities suiting different profiles. The various programs we have developed in recent years have now all been brought together under a single label, enhancing synergies and making our industry offer more flexible. The selected Swiss professionals will have a chance to meet with their international counterparts and further extend their network of contacts.

Locarno Pro benefits from the support of the Federal Office of Culture (FOC), in the context of the MEDIA compensatory measures.
