Carne

Rare, medium rare, medium, medium well and well done. Through intimate and personal stories, five women share their experiences in relation to their bodies, from childhood to old age.

In this striking debut, animator Camila Kater captures honest and intimate discussions of usually taboo subjects about the changes that the female body endures: weight, menstruation and menopause. Captivating the viewer with sensual and delicate animation, using a mixture of styles to suit the “chapters” within the film, reflecting the chapters of life. It comments on the traditional objectification and abusive comparison when describing women as meat.

Locarno is ...

… a piece of my heart. The whole experience of my directorial debut's premiere was remarkable and extraordinary. I will never forget how intense the reaction of the huge audience was during the first screening of Carne.
