The Pre-festival welcomes Magali Noël
This week’s Locarno Pre-festival features two great milestones from cinema history. First, on Sunday 31st July, comes a screening of Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961), directed by Blake Edwards and featuring one of Audrey Hepburn’s sharpest performances. Then, on Tuesday 2nd August, also in the Piazza Grande, Federico Fellini’s Amarcord (1973) will be accompanied by an appearance from Magali Noël, who played Gradisca in the film. The French actress will not only introduce the screening, but also perform the title song, “Amarcord”. This event has been made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Swiss Film Archive and the exhibition “Fellini, la Grande Parade” at the Musée de l'Elysée in Lausanne.
These two free screenings will see the first use of the Digital Cinema 4K format in the Piazza Grande. The new projection format projection format brings high definition to every frame, so the audience will be able to savour all the nuances of the original films. The screenings are the ideal springboard for launching the official festival, which opens on the 3rd of August.Lorenzo Buccella
