Founded in 2010 with the aim of assisting the development of emerging talents, the Summer Academy is a Festival del film Locarno training program aimed at young professionals, students and film critics.

Every year around 80 promising young talents from all over the world are selected by the Locarno Summer Academy and its partners, and invited to participate in one of the four programs on offer. Each program has its own focal point: The Academy Meetings focuses on meetings for young film professionals. The Critics Academy, this year in collaboration with Indiewire, is a program for young film critics. The University Producing Lab is for university students and introduces them to the fundamentals of film production. Cinema&Gioventù is a program for younger participants who want to experience the Festival from the inside.
