The Festival del film Locarno was saddened to hear of Roger Ebert’s passing away, and takes part in the cinema world's mourning for the loss of THE film critic.
The Festival’s Artistic Director Carlo Chatrian remembers him: "Meticulously precise and considered, invariably interesting, Ebert was a major reference point for my generation. Someone who was constitutionally incapable of concealing the positions he took. With his tweets, through which he also supported our Critics Academy, he was able to adapt the role of the critic in terms of new communication platforms without ever losing that humanity and energy that made him so distinctive. "
Roger Ebert was in Locarno in 2003, where he reviewed films and took part in a round table discussion titled "From small to big screen: what can TV do for the cinema?".
Farewell, Roger Ebert, and thank you for your love for film.Press Office
