Milcho Manchevski is a New York-based Macedonian-born film director, writer, photographer and artist. His film Before the Rain(1994) won the Golden Lion in Venice, the FIPRESCI Prize and the Independent Spirit Award, along with 30 other awards, including an Oscar nomination. The New York Times included it on its “1,000 Best Movies Ever Made” list. Manchevski has directed 50 short films, three other features (Dust, 2001, Shadows, 2007 and Mothers, 2010) and an episode of HBO’s The Wire. He has published books of fiction, essays and photographs as well as having taught extensively, most notably at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts: Graduate Film.
