Open Doors Awards 2012

 

The awards for the 2012 Open Doors co-production lab, that is organised with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), were announced on Tuesday 7 August.

The 2012 session was devoted to cinema from Francophone sub-Saharan Africa. 12 projects, selected out of over 200 applications from 17 countries, participated in the Open Doors co-production lab, organised with the collaboration of the Festival Industry Office. The objective of the 4-day workshop that took place during the Festival, was to assist the selected directors and producers to find co-production partners and to complete their films.

The jury decided upon the following grants, awarded by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), City of Bellinzona and by the support of Visions Sud Est:

Grant Open Doors for post-production 10.000 CHF
Fragments de vies (Pieces of Lives) by Laza (Madagascar)

Grant Open Doors for development 15.000 CHF
Ladji Nyè (The Eye) by Daouda Coulibaly (Mali)

Grant Open Doors for development 10.000 CHF
Faso Fani, la fin du rêve (Faso Fani, the End of the Dream) by Michel K. Zongo (Burkina Faso)

Grant Open Doors for development 15.000 CHF
La Prochaine fois, le Feu,(Fire Next Time) by Mati Diop (Sénégal)

Premio ARTE Open Doors 6.000 Euros
Faso Fani, la fin du rêve (Faso Fani, the End of the Dream) by Michel K. Zongo (Burkina Faso)

Grant CNC (Centre National du cinéma et de l’image animée) 7.000 Euros
La Prochaine fois, le Feu,(Fire Next Time) by Mati Diop (Sénégal)

Aside from the workshop, the Open Doors Screenings, aimed at both festival goers and professional delegates, will run until the end of the Festival. The 2012 programme presents a selection of 21 key films from Francophone sub-Saharan Africa made in recent years.
