A platform for new talent, the Pardi di domani section screens short and medium-length films from around the world (not more than 59 minutes in length) by independent filmmakers or film school students who have not previously directed feature films.
For many filmmakers short films are a stepping stone on the way to features, for some they continue to represent a conscious preference in terms of language and expression. Either way, the Pardi di domani section provides the selected directors with a platform to gain credibility on the international scene and lay the foundations for their future projects.
The program includes swiss and international titles, available online and onsite in Locarno and Muralto. The selection committee identifies films that explore new aesthetic, cinematographic and narrative forms or that simply bring an original look at the world.
The Pardi di domani 2020 jury members are three personalities from the world of cinema and culture that have turned to the short film format as a means of artistic expression or object of analysis.

A Senegalese writer and director, he attracted international notice with his two short films Samedi Cinema (2016) and Lost in Transit (2018). In 2019, he won the Swatch First Feature Award and Cineasti del presente Golden Leopard with his first full-length feature Baamum Nafi (Nafi’s Father).
Padrini&Madrine is a new project of Locarno 2020: Fourteen international filmmakers have been invited to foster talents in the new generation of cinema from Pardi di domani by giving them an opportunity of exchange, offering to share ideas and perspectives on filmmaking. These conversations will be filmed and made available online for the audience during the Locarno Film Festival.
