Applications are open for little cinema lovers

How does the cinema industry work? How do you go from an idea, to a story and lastly to a movie? The applications are know open for Locarno Kids, which will offer kids the chance to live the Festival as protagonists, held from the 2nd to the 11th of August. The initiative, born during the 70th edition of the Festival, will offer a great variety of workshops, combining educational classes with moments of entertainment. In addition to the traditional Sunday screening on Piazza Grande, dedicated to the younger ones, artistic director Carlo Chatrian will curate a film selection suited for kids.

Thanks to the synergies with SUPSI’s Dipartimento formazione e apprendimento (DFA), Locarno Kids will rely on a group of experts, which will manage about twenty workshops specifically catered to children and teenagers between the ages of 3 and 14. The workshops are based on inputs and suggestions made by the Festival’s programming. Among the many partnerships we can also find the one with LAC Lugano Arte e Cultura, which will enrich Locarno Kids with two workshops on animation and sound design, aimed at children between 11 and 15 years of age.
To complete this offer, there will be a series of screenings, selected and commented by the experts of Castellinaria, exclusively addressed to the participants of the workshops. Cinemagia, besides its traditional family screening on Piazza Grande, which will take place on Sunday, Agust 12th, will continue its program dedicated to elementary school children, and will also offer the chance to get to know the Festival from behind the scenes, by meeting various film directors and collaborators. Finally, Lanterna Magica will organize a theatrical show, which will anticipate one of Locarno Kids’ projections linked to the Retrospettiva on Leo McCarey.
