Green is the neighbour

Piazza Grande - Greener Grass

“Uh oh… wrong husband,” says one of the two not-so-serious leading ladies after both enjoy a very long French kiss with the men they thought were their respective male partners.

Picture Wisteria Lane but crazier. Imagine a world in which everything and everyone is interchangeable. Literally. Homes, husbands, wives, children, nature… When these sacred identities are dissolved, what is left of us? Federico Fellini used to say that "Calling actors puppets is actually a compliment"; Greener Grass would live up to the master’s expectations in this respect.

This first feature by directorial duo Jocelyn DeBoer and Dawn Luebbe, who also serve as the film's main protagonists, Greener Grass stems from the eponymous short film — winner of the Special Jury Award at SXSW — they wrote in 2015.

Think pink. Think grotesque. Think braces. The two women responsible for this homage to John Waters, recipient of the Pardo d’onore Manor and subject of a must-see retrospective, are both divine creatures and creators.

Launched at the Sundance Film Festival, the film reaches the shores of Locarno for its international premiere and perfectly embodies the Crazy Midnight spirit.
