Isao Takahata and the Pardo d'onore

Isao Takahata, one of the most incredible storytellers of the 20th century and co-founder of the legendary Studio Ghibli, passed away yesterday, April 5th, 2018.
In 2009, during Locarno62's retrospective Manga Impact, the Festival's audience had the chance to watch the shiny dancing creatures of Grave of the fireflies (1988), the exuberant and great imagination that liven the Yamadas family's daily life up in My neighbors the Yamadas (1999), the adventures of Hols in Little norse prince Valiant (1968) and those of Conan, the boy in future (1978).

Piazza Grande also had the honor to pay homage to Takahata with the screening of Pom Poko (1994), and awarded the creator of the Heidi (1974) and Anne of Green Gables (1979) series with the Pardo d'onore.
