Dans la Paris des années 1950, un enfant trouve un ballon rouge attaché à un réverbère. Il le détache et, à la surprise du voisinage, le ballon le suit dans les rues de Paris, rendant jaloux les autres enfants. Classique incontournable du cinéma pour enfants, le film d’Albert Lamorisse a reçu la Palme d’or du court métrage en 1956 et un Oscar du meilleur scénario original en 1957.
