Winter Emotions with TEOS
We’ve been told that this is one of the hottest summers in Locarno and in whole Ticino, so we need a fairly good imagination to project ourselves into winter. But as you know, we cannot deny that Switzerland is still seen as the country with snowy mountains great for winter sport. It is therefore not surprising that the Top Events of Switzerland (TEOS, in which the Festival del film Locarno is a proud member) includes two classic winter competitions scheduled for next year.
The Ski World Cup Wengen will be held in January from Saturday 16th to Monday 18th. It is one of the oldest ski races in the world, beginning in 1930. Since the 1966/67 winter season, it has taken place within the framework of the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup and today it is still its longest race. This year three medals out of nine went to Swiss athletes: Carlo Janka won the alpine skiing in combined and earned a bronze medal in downhill, where Beat Feuz finished in second place.
If you prefer slower action but with the same amount of adrenaline, you should consider joining the White Turf in St. Moritz by being one of the 30,000 spectators who come yearly to this beatiful town in the Canton of Graubünden. The frozen expanse of the Lake of St. Moritz hosts several races and the best international jockeys, running the risk of melting after the huge amount of heat and enthusiasm. Three dates are available to attend: Feburary 7th, 14th and 21st, 2016.Mattia Bertoldi
