The package tour: Locarno in three days

Last year’s introduction of the Industry Days at the Festival del film Locarno became an instant success, with a record of number of participants from all over the world.

”This year i twill even be bigger: 951 film professionals, including 251 buyers, and more quality attendance,” explained head of Locarno’s Industry Office, Nadia Dresti. ”Everybody likes the idea of a package tour of the festival, with the possibilty to watch a major part of the selection in three days.”

Among the newcomers are California Filmes from Brazil; from Denmark, Scanbox Entertainment, adding TrustNordisk International Sales, which are back; Pacha Pictures from France, specialising in Middle East cinema; Planet Media, from Germany.

Between Saturday, Aug 6-Monday, Aug 8, all films in the two competitions - Concorso internazionale, Concorso Cineasti del presente - and in the Piazza Grande selection  which are not on the daily schedule will unspool at special industry screenings.

There are several Locarno firsts from India, such as Superfine Films; A-One films, from Russia; Insomnia, from Slovenia; Tuck Vision, from Serbia – ”most of them cinefile distributors, who are attracted by the festival’s new profile and the product available,” per Dresti.

Including the Open Doors programme, the Industry Office will host special events for film professionals between Friday, Aug 5-Tuesday, 9 August, with meetings for partner organisations (Europa Distribution, EAVE, ACE, Producers Network ao).

”We are introducing a Carte Blanche, each year devoted to a special country, starting with Colombia, in collaboration with Proimagenes Columbia: from 20 films in post-production we have chosen eight, which the producers will present to sales agents and festival programmers.”

”There will also be a demonstration of Story Touch tools for dramatic analysis, by Brazil producer Paolo Morelli. Besides being a traditional market, we try to reflect new developments in the industry as a service to our guests,”  Dresti concluded.
