A Summer of Learning
The Festival as a learning place, this is the vocation of the Locarno Summer Academy.
Founded in 2010 with the aim of assisting the development of emerging talents, the Academy is a training program aimed at young professionals, students and film critics.
Given the quantity of professionals in town during the festival period, it is convenient for the Academy to organize lectures, round tables, labs, workshops, meetings and case studies with well-established names from the film world, offering participants the opportunity to meet with some of the most important names in the Film industry, and possibly make new contacts.
In 2012, the Summer Academy hosts four different initiatives for its 80 members, promising young talents selected by the Academy partners: the Academy Meetings, for professionals in the film industry, the Critics Academy for young film journalists/critics, the University Producing Lab, for university students with film, audio–visual and communication curricula, and the Cinema&Gioventù initiative, aimed at high school and university students.
The Locarno Summer Academy enjoys the support from the Ernst Göhner Stiftung (Zug) and collaborates with Università della Svizzera italiana (Facoltà di Scienze della comunicazione) and Dipartimento dell’educazione, della cultura e dello sport del Cantone Ticino, Centro didattico cantonale, Indiewire, the Film Society of Lincoln Center and the Swiss Association of Film Journalists.Massimo Benvegnú
