Born in Lausanne in 1975, Lionel Baier studied literature at Lausanne University. He went on to direct numerous documentaries including Celui au pasteur (ma vision personnelle des choses) (2000) and La Parade (notre histoire) (2002). In 2004 he made his first fiction feature, Garçon stupide, followed by two films that were selected for Locarno, Another Man (2008), in the Concorso internazionale, and Low Cost (2010), shown in the Fuori concorso section. In 2013 he directed Longwave which was screened on the Piazza Grande. Since 2002 Lionel Baier has been Head of the Film Department at the École cantonale d’art de Lausanne (ECAL) and in 2009 co-founded Bande à part Films.
