The Locarno Critics Academy is the Locarno Film Festival initiative open to 10 aspiring young film critics. The selected participants (4 from Switzerland and 6 from all over the world) will take part in a rigorous programme of workshops, masterclasses, and tutorials in written criticism.
Selected participants will cover the Festival with reviews of films in the official selection, articles on sidebar events and the various themes running through the programming, in-depth reflection on the program sections, and interviews with the guests of Locarno Film Festival.
All the participants’ reviews and articles will have the possibility of being published on LocarnoDaily (Locarno Festival’s daily newspaper), IndieWire, Film Comment, MUBI, Variety, Filmbulletin, Filmexplorer, Swissinfo .and other titles
The Swiss participants will work under the editorial guidance of the Association of Swiss Film Journalists (ASFJ), the Centre for Publishing in the Arts of the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and Cineman.ch.
The program also provides round tables with Festival guests and workshops with film journalists, editors, publicists, and other professionals attending Locarno, designed to introduce future film critics to the international film industry.
The Critics Academy is organized in collaboration with the Swiss Federal Office of Culture (FOC), the Swiss Association of Film Journalists (SVFJ), the Centre for Publishing in the Arts of the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). The working language is English.
The seventh edition of the Locarno Critics Academy will be held from August 7th to 17th in the midst of the 72nd edition of the Locarno Film Festival.
