Nicholas Elliott has been the American correspondent for Cahiers du Cinéma in New York since 2009. He is a Contributing Editor for Film for BOMB magazine. His writing on film has also appeared in Film Comment, The Criterion Collection, 4 Columns, Extra Extra Magazine, and anthologies on the work of Chantal Akerman and Philippe Garrel. He is on the programming committee of the Flaherty Film Seminar as a member of its board of directors. He has programmed film series at the Alliance Française in New York, as well as the Alliance in Washington DC, and has lectured on film in Japan (French cultural centers, film schools, arthouse movie theaters) in the context of the Semaines des Cahiers du Cinéma au Japon in 2015 and 2017. He was a jury member at the Belfort Festival (2013) and the Locarno Critics’ Week (2016). He is the writer and director of three short films programmed at the Rotterdam, New Directors New Films (MoMA/Film Society of Lincoln Center), Chicago Underground, and Amiens festivals, among others. Nicholas is also a translator of books from French to English. His recent translations include Michel Winock’s biography of Flaubert and William Marx’s essay The Hatred of Literature (both published by Harvard University Press), as well as Duras/Godard: Dialogues (forthcoming from The Film Desk).
