L’immagine e la parola is the spring-time event of the Festival del film Locarno, forming part of the Primavera Locarnese, alongside Eventi Letterari Monte Verità and Youtopia. L'immagine e la parola – with Carlo Chatrian as Artistic Director and with the collaboration of Italian critic Daniela Persico – explores in depth the rapport between moving image and written word.
The focus of the third edition (19 – 22 March) was the French author, screenwriter and director Emmanuel Carrère. The Festival invited Carrère, a multi-faceted talent with a taste for formal o experiment, to curate a program of screenings and encounters that will explore his creative world, and investigate relationships between film and the written word.
The four-day program of screenings, round tables and discussion sessions was hallmarked by a special focus on younger audiences, including a wide range of educational activities with workshops for film school students and international young filmmakers.
The program was be completed by afternoon and evening screenings of films old and new that have broken new ground in their approach to literary tradition in cinematic form, attended by guests of international standing.
The main venues for L'immagine e la parola were the Teatro di Locarno (Kursaal) and the Monte Verità center in Ascona.
