Masterclass L'immagine e la parola 2019

L'Immagine e la parola is a moment of theoretical and practical elaboration on the relationships between the moving image and the written word. The two mornings of Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 March are dedicated to an in-depth study of the theme by the main guests, called upon to hold masterclasses on the relationship between cinema and narration.

The masterclasses, which are free upon registration, will involve a limited number of students and young professionals. The comparison with authors of international importance offers the opportunity for participants to deepen their knowledge and refine their professional skills in the development and processing of film storytelling.

The seventh edition of L'immagine e la parola will revolve around the theme of creation through the meeting between different generations, starting with Béla Tarr who – after announcing her retirement from cinema – is dedicating himself with passion and dedication to the filmmakers of the future, creating prolific opportunities for exchange to bring to light the individual voices of the new authors and consolidate their talent. Next to him the famous Italian editor Jacopo Quadri, who was a permanent collaborator of Bernardo Bertolucci at the time of the return to the investigation of young people, the protagonist of the latest films of the great director (The Dreamers, You and I).

March 30 (10:00 - 13:00) – Masterclass Béla Tarr: a path along the director's career to analyze how his aesthetics took shape and developed from Őszi almanach (1984) to A torinói ló (2011), marked by long sequence planes, the use of black and white and the dilation of time. An opportunity to explore the evolution of an essential author, who has redefined contemporary cinema. The masterclass will be held in English with Italian translation

31 March (10:30 - 13:00) – Masterclass Jacopo Quadri: a journey into Italian cinema (Bernardo Bertolucci, Gianfranco Rosi, Mario Martone, Paolo Virzì, Alessandro Rossetto) to discover the work of an editing professional who has recently switched to directing (La scuola d'estate, Lorello and Brunello). Together with Quadri, we will examine the role of the editor in distant creative processes (from fiction to the cinema of reality) to focus on the role of "time" in cinema. The masterclass will be held in Italian
