Locarno Talks la Mobiliare
The Locarno Festival and its Main partner Swiss Mobiliar launched in 2017 the Locarno Talks la Mobiliare, a series of public talks.
Now that moving images dominate every aspect of our daily lives, it’s time to rediscover the visionary power of words. It’s with this intention that the Locarno Festival and Swiss Mobiliar conceived the Locarno Talks, deciding to invite luminaries from across a variety of disciplines to Locarno to discuss a common theme in front of a public audience.
The theme of the inaugural edition of the Locarno Talks was “Home”. The concept of home may have universal connotations, but its meaning and application have always been subject to myriad interpretations. The first round of the Locarno Talks was dedicated to exploring this multivalence via the rich and varied insights of its speakers: Swiss diplomat and former UN Chief Prosecutor Carla del Ponte; award-winning architect Diébédo Francis Kéré, from Burkina Faso; Canadian musician and performance artist Peaches; and British astrophysicist Ben Moore.
The first edition of the Locarno Talks was held during the 70th Locarno Festival at the Spazio Cinema, which was newly renovated for the Festival’s anniversary, from Sunday the 6th of August until Friday the 11th of August 2017.
