Claudia Cardinale, Bruno Ganz and Claude Goretta: this is the genuine dream team of the European arthouse cinema which will be honored with the award Pardo alla Carriera in Locarno.
But some other homages will broaden the view of the film festival beyond the borders of the Old Continent, as proved by the series of initiatives dedicated to the Japanese director Hitoshi Matsumoto. And whether the rough and expressive Jean-Marie Straub's movies are always warmly welcomed by the Locarno screens, this year will be also the turn of Anri Sala, from Albany, whose works will range over the borders between arts and cinema.
Beyond the usual seasons dedicated to the movies of the jurors, the section Programmi speciali will be completed by a tribute to the courageous Jafar Panahi, condemned to six years in prison and proscribed to practise directoring for twenty years by the Iranian regime, a remembrance to Daniel Schmid (exactly five years after his passing) and a series of masterpieces of the film history (from Tarkovskiy to Fassbinder, not to mention Ciprì and Maresco and the new appointment with the Swiss rediscovered cinema).
