Film Festivals are places where careers and lifetime vocations can start, not just for aspiring filmmakers, actors or producers – they can also be inspirational for a new breed of writers, journalists and commentators, making a difference in an ever-changing scene such as Film Criticism.

The Critics Academy is a section of the Festival del film Locarno Summer Academy training program, aimed at College-age film journalists and critics and organized  in collaboration with daily news film site Indiewire, the Film Society of Lincoln Center in New York City, the Swiss Federal Office of Culture (FOC), the Swiss Association of Film Journalists and Fred Film Radio.

The selected participants, out of a total of 132 submitted applications, are asked to cover the Festival by filing reviews, articles, profiles and interviews. They have full access to screenings and press conferences, and part of their work is also made available on the Festival's official website pardolive.ch.

The participants of the 2013 edition are: James Berclaz-Lewis, Ronan Doyle, Adriana Floridia, Tara Karajica, Laya Maheshwari, Michael Pattison, Ingrid Raison and Katelyn Trott, under the guidance of Indiewire Chief Film Critic and Senior Editor Eric Kohn.
