Participants of the Filmmakers Academy and Critics Academy

The 35 participants of the Filmmakers Academy and the Critics Academy, two initiatives of the Locarno Summer Academy, have been selected among 283 submissions.

The Filmmakers Academy involves young filmmakers from the best film schools around the world. Daily encounters with directors and other internationally high-profile film professionals offers 25 participants from 19 different countries, selected from 153 applicants, an opportunity to develop their individual abilities, creative identities and professional skills, in both production and distribution of narrative film and television, articulated around a theme that is redefined every year.

The Critics Academy involves 10 aspiring young film critics from Switzerland and abroad. The Critics Academy is organized in collaboration with the American film website Indiewire, the Film Society of Lincoln Center in New York, Film Comment, the Swiss Federal Office of Culture (FOC), the Swiss Association of Film Journalists (SVFJ), the Centre for Publishing in the Arts of the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and cineman.ch.
The selected film critics will be invited to Locarno to cover the Festival by filing reviews of films in the selection, articles on sidebar events, in-depth reflection on the various program sections or interviews with the Festival's guests.
