From the rock songs played by an uncontrollable Meryl Streep in Jonathan Demme's Ricki and the Flash to the new Georges Schwizgebel animated short film Erlkönig (based on Schubert's and Liszt's work), this year’s Festival del film Locarno is full of music as usual. But, if those attending will still feel the need for even more music, why to not consider joining another popular event, the Lucerne Festival, scheduled from August 14th to September 13th, 2015.

Lucerne Festival is one of the Top Events of Switzerland (TEOS), a seal of quality which gathers eight world-famous Swiss events including the Festival del film Locarno. A Falstaff quote from Giuseppe Verdi's opera, "All the world’s a joke," represents a sort of leading theme since this year’s edition is dedicated to "Humor". "Stay witty, stay foolish" to paraphrase Steve Jobs – the festival features a long list of great conductors and virtuoso musicians from Daniel Barenboim to Simon Rattle and Christian Thielemann, from the Berlin to the Vienna Philharmonic.

And by the way, Lucerne is only 65 kilometres away from Zurich where you can take part in another Top Event - the Weltklasse at the Letzigrund Stadium. The international track and field meeting is part of the IAAF Diamond League and offers a night of fascinating athletics on September 3rd. The last world record set here goes back to 2009, when the Russian pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva jumped 5.06 metres. Will it be time for another world record?
