News from the Locarno Festival

Locarno Filmmakers Academy 2016

Now in its fourth edition, the Locarno Filmmakers Academy continues to grow, and in fact this year the number of international applicants has doubled. This interest is due to the quality of the guests we can offer for the Academy's private sessions, which enables the small group of participants to talk directly with major figures from the film world. This year guests include Roger Corman, Gaspar Noé, Albert Serra, Douglas Gordon, Jonas Mekas, Howard Shore, Alejandro Jodorowsky and Ken Loach, in addition to producers and artistic directors from major international film festivals.

Among the young talents selected for the Locarno Filmmakers Academy 2016 we should note there are 6 participants from the Cannes Cinéfondation's Residency, the winner of the last Berlin Festival's Golden Bear for Best Short Film, Leonor Teles, and a promising newcomer in American cinema, Reinaldo Marcus Green. With the desire to help build on the international achievements of young talent from Africa, this year the Locarno Filmmakers Academy initiates a collaboration with the writers' workshop Realness (www.urucumedia.com/realness), hosting the Ethiopian director Hiwot Admasu.
